Story
If you thought Declaime finding a rap in the previous song was bonkers, how about finding one in “You Only Want Rain Because You’re On Fire“? As it was a transitional song to link “Gyre” to “A Surrender Due in 2007,” I had it follow the song based on “Gyre” here as well. Why mess with the original intent? Meanwhile, the song’s title is styled to be just that bit more poetry-looking. The word O only gets out of bed for poem days.
As this album was my first attempt to be major-league with vocal production, I had to develop a bag of tricks large enough to sustain interest through the album. Here, I took a page from “Hallo Excentrico!” – made by the bandsticking their finger on a physical playback to create weird moans – to create the rotor-fueled breakdown and comeback toward the end.
Also, midway through making this album, Declaime said I could go weirder on the vocal effects than I had been. This song is my response to that.
Lyrics (by Declaime)
In the stillness of the night
Where the stars shine so bright
I search for the key to my soul
Lost in a world of endless strife
Seeking meaning in this life
Hoping to find my ultimate goal
The key, O where could it be?
Unlocking mysteries within me
Leading me to my destiny
O, the key – set me free
Through valleys deep and mountains so high,
I journey on beneath the sky
Each step brings me closer to the truth
In every whisper of the wind and every message that life sends
I’ll find the clue to unlock my youth
The key, O where could it be?
Unlocking mysteries within me
Leading me to my destiny
O, the key – set me free
In the silence of my heart
I hear the key calling out
Guiding me through the dark, erasing every doubt
The key, O where could it be?
Unlocking mysteries within me
Leading me to my destiny
O, that key, it set me free
So I’ll keep searching, never rest
Until I hold the key to my chest
For in its grasp I’ll find peace
And all my struggles will finally cease
Some press about it
Pending! (I hope.)
Let’s drop the beat (by which I mean go without it, not introduce it – confusing, right?) with Ode to My Ride or Die
