Story
“Desert Scorpion” followed “There’s Much Left to Explore” on my debut album. I still see the two instrumentals as following each other naturally, so I kept that order in putting this song after “Oceans Drowning.”
At least one reviewer thought the original instrumental went on too long. Given the novelty of the sound, I wanted to let the listener get accustomed to it and soak it in. While that made sense me to then, I’ve thought more often than not that I could have shortened it. So I’m grateful to have the do-over gift-wrapped.
It’s hard for me not to rate the songs on this album like I’d rate the instrumentals, of course. Having said that, I think this version fulfills the promise of the original instrumental while also giving hip-hop a set of genres it normally doesn’t get access to. You still have that crisp half-time beat to set Declaime up at the beginning, but he’s not supposed to be flanked by accordion and sitar. This is probably my favorite song on side 1.
Lyrics (by Declaime)
In a world of chaos, where nature weeps
A melody of hope our planet seeks
Harmony rising like a gentle breeze
Healing vibration amongst the trees
Sound waves of love, echoing wide
Healing the earth with a rhythmic tide
High vibrations soar through the air
A song of healing beyond compare
Mountains resonate with a sacred hum
Rivers dance to a rhythmic drum
Birds join in, with their sweet refrain
A symphony of healing, erasing all pain
Sound waves of love, echoing wide
Healing the earth with a rhythmic tide
High vibrations soar through the air
A song of healing beyond compare
Let the ocean sing waves in harmony
Every note a promise for a brighter sea, sea, sea, sea
The sun whispers secrets to the moon
A celestial concert, a cosmic tune
Humans unite in this cosmic choir
Singing for earth
Lifting higher and higher and higher and higher
Every voice a note, every heartbeat a song
A chorus of healing where we all belong
Sound waves of love, echoing wide
Healing the earth with a rhythmic tide
High vibrations soar through the air
A song of healing beyond compare
So let this song resonate in every heart
A symphony of healing, a brand new start
For in the power of sound and vibrations so high
We heal the planet beneath the sky
Let the echoes linger in the cosmic sea
A timeless anthem of unity
In this song of healing, forever we stand
Hand in hand, protecting our precious land
And we move on
As we move on
And we move on
That’s how you grow
Some press about it
Pending! (I hope.)
